Randy Dotinga is a freelance writer based in San Diego. He has been a professional journalist for 34 years and has written for a variety of publications, including The Washington Post, Medscape, MDedge, MedPage Today, The Christian Science Monitor, Vanity Fair, Wired News, Voice of San Diego, KPBS, Editor & Publisher, HealthDay News, and many more. Dotinga is a board member of the Association of Health Care Journalists and former president of the American Society of Journalists & Authors, an associaton of independent non-fiction writers and authors. He is also a former board member of NLGJA: The Association of LGBTQ Journalists. In addition to speaking at dozens of journalism conferences, Dotinga is a leading advocate for the rights of freelance writers. Dotinga became a freelance journalist in 1999 after working as a reporter at a daily newspaper. In addition to health/science, he writes about history, books, politics, film, and the odd and unusual. He has a bachelor's degree in history from UC San Diego.
